Xiaomi Redmi 5A: Launched at Introductory Price of Rs 4,999/-

Xiaomi (Mi) has announced their latest Budget end smartphone Redmi 5A in India, earlier today. The phone is latest to join the strong budget line up for Xiaomi. Recently, Xiaomi had launched a camera centric budget phone the Redmi Y1/Lite starting from Rs 6,999/-. Mi is known for launching value for money devices in the budget segment which has helped it gain the top position in terms of market share in India.

Mi India aims to expand their base even further with the launch of Redmi 5A at a remarkable price of Rs 4,999/- (Introductory discount of Rs 1,000/-for 1^st 5 million Buyers). The phone comes with impressive specs for the price. Mi claims up to 8 days of standby battery life. The device will be produced in India under the Make in India initiative. Redmi 5A has been touted as “Desh Ka Smartphone” by Xiaomi.

The Redmi 5A has two variants, Base variant 2GB Ram and 16 GB Storage for Rs 4,999/- (post 5 mn handset sales price is expected to be Rs 5,999/-) Premium variant comes with 3GB Ram and 32 GB Storage priced at Rs 6,999/-. The phone is pretty similar to its predecessor Redmi 4A.

The phone will be available from 7^th Dec,’17, 12 noon onwards on Flipkart, Mi Portal and Mi Home stores. The phone is also expected to be available via Mi partner stores.

Hardware Specifications

Redmi 5A is powered by Snapdragon 425 chipset, quad core processor clocked @ 1.4 Ghz along with 2/3 GB Ram and 16/32 GB Storage. The Adreno 308 GPU is also capable of providing decent gaming experience.

Redmi 5A has 5 inch 720p display with compact form factor which makes single hand use possible this device. The 3000 mah battery is expected to last for full working day even with heavy use.

The body has metallic finish which feels better than the one found on Redmi 4A.

It has a dedicated SD Card slot along with dual sim 4G Volte support.

Features

Mi has also not skimped on the features as it comes with most of the commonly used sensors and IR Blaster which is incredible in my opinion for a Budget end smartphone. It also has the 3.5 mm audio jack. However, the Finger print scanner is not available on this phone.

It runs on Android Nougat OS with custom MiUi 9 interface.

Camera

The Redmi 5A comes with single rear and front camera. The primary camera is a 13 megapixel shooter with f/2.2 aperture and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). The front camera is of 5 mo with f/2.0 aperture.

The camera spec also seems decent for the price of Redmi 5A.

The phone will be available in Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold variant.
