Mi Band HRX Edition: Review

Xiaomi (Mi) had launched the Mi Band HRX Edition in India last month in collaboration with Hrithik Roshan. The Band is similar to the Mi Band 2 launched last year, however, the Heart rate sensor is absent in the latest edition. The fitness band is available online for just Rs 1,299/- on Mi India, Flipkart, Myntra and Amazon portal. The device is also available offline through Mi Home stores.

The device has been priced pretty competitively in my opinion.

This review is being published after using the Band for almost three weeks.

HRX Band

The Band has similar specs to that of Mi Band 2. The Battery, Dimension and Looks being identical, the only notable difference is the absence of Heart Rate Sensor at the back of the Tracker.

The Tracker is extremely light as it weighs just 7 gms without the rubber strap. The quality of strap also seems to be an improvement over the previous generation.

Display

The OLED display on the HRX edition is improved compared to its predecessor. The display looks much more crisp and sharp. This makes for a pleasant viewing.

The capacitive button at the bottom assists to navigate the tracker.

Notifications

It retains most of the features available on Mi Band 2. Notification Alerts for the relevant apps may be customized using the Mi Fit application. The tracker does display call alerts and text messages, however the option to take calls or read the texts messages is not available.

The Tracker also displays the Date and Time along with Step Count, Distance covered, Battery Usage and Calories burnt.

Battery Life

The battery life on this HRX Band is decent as it will last for anywhere between 10-12 days with all the functions being enabled. Thereby, it falls short of 23 days battery life claimed by Xiaomi. Still, I would say the battery life is acceptable as it is an ultra budget fitness band.

However, I do feel the battery life on Mi Band 2 was slightly better considering the fact that it also had the Heart Rate Sensor.

It takes roughly about One and half hours to completely charge.

Performance

The Band is pretty prompt with app notification and alerts. The tracker is able to track the sleep duration, distance covered, calories burnt and steps count. However, the Band is not very accurate in tracking as I found that even my hand movements were being recorded as step taken. Also the sleep tracker does not track the short naps taken during the day.

Still, I would say this tracker is decent for the price and one may ignore the marginal inaccuracies reported by the Band.
