Xiaomi has enjoyed enormous success ever since its entry in the Smartphone market and is now the 3rdlargest smartphone vendor after Samsung and Apple. The reason behind the success not only lies in the fact that they manufacture some impressive phones but also the innovative style of selling along with competitive the pricing of the devices adopted by Xiaomi.
In India they did very well with the launch of Mi and Redmi1s which sold like hot cakes. Last month they had launched the Redmi Note 3G variant which was impressive but had some flaws too. Note 3G came with the outdated Android Jellybean OS. Also the Mediatek Processor and Mali GPU used on Note 3G performed decently for most part but did show up their weakness under heavy use. But with the Note 4G Xiaomi have made some hardware changes which makes the device very fluid to use along with improved gaming experience.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset powered by Cortex A7 Quadcore Processor clocked at 1.6ghz provides it sufficient ammunition and Adreno GPU 305 makes gaming even more enjoyable.
You also get 4G LTE support on this device and sells exclusively on Flipkart @ Rs 9999/-.

Build

If you look at the phone you basically won’t find much difference between the Redmi Note and Redmi Note 4G. It is entirely made up of plastic and is slightly thicker at 9.45 mm and weighs around 185 gms. The Note is available in White variant and the back cover has a glossy finish which just might make the phone slippery so one has to be careful while handling it. The back cover and the battery is user removable. The glossy backcover will attract a lot of finger prints hence using a cover is a better option.
Due to its large size single hand use is not possible on this device.
In my opinion build quality is average but not bad by any means and given the price at which it is available I don’t think we can complain much about it.

Display

It sports a 720p display which gives a pixel density of 267 ppi. Owing to the large screen the display does look a bit washed out at times. However the display looks decent and people coming from lower or similar display resolution won’t be able to differentiate much. The screen quality is good and even when you tilt the phone to extreme angles it does not fade.
The display is protected by Dragon Tail Glass which we had seen on Redmi Note but I do feel Corning Gorilla Glass could have made it even better.

Hardware Configuration

It is powered by a Quad Core A7 Cortex Processor clocked at 1.6ghz and uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset which ensures smooth performance. The GPU on board is Adreno 305 which is good enough for most of the games.
More importantly it has 2 gb of Ram which will ensure that the device does not lag and remains responsive even while multitasking. The MiUi interface is heavy and so I strongly feel 2Gb of RAM is required for smooth running of the device.
It has an Internal Storage of 8gb which can be expanded via Micro SD card upto 32 gb.

Software

This is an area where Xiaomi needs to work upon in my opinion. Redmi Note 4G runs on Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and I hope the latest Android update is coming soon.
I do like the MiUi interface which does offer a lot of customization and eagerly waiting for the Official rollout of the MiUi 6 update.

Battery Life

It does boast of huge battery of 3100 mah which will probably last you for a more than day even under heavy usage. Apart from Redmi1s all the other devices from Xiaomi have a very good battery life. This device too is no different and you won’t have anything to complain.
Gaming

Gaming experience will be very good on this device with regard to the hardware specs available on the device. The larger display will make gaming more enjoyable and you can expect to play most of the graphics intensive games at the highest possible setting.

Networks and Reception

Previous Xiaomi devices were good with Cellular Call and Voice quality but I did observe frequent call drops on Redmi1s which did improve with software rolled out later and even in Mi3 I found at times the voice used to fade away suddenly.
In this phone no such issue have been reported till now and Call quality and Network reception is good on the phone.

Camera

Xiaomi have managed to put in very good camera in its previous devices as well. The camera on this device is very good the rear and front cam do a decent job. In fact the pictures taken on this device can be compared to those clicked from higher end devices.

Overall Impression

Redmi Note 4G looks very impressive for the Price it has been launched in the market. However, apart from the pricing things which work in favour of the device is the ever growing popularity of  Xiaomi devices backed by decent hardware specifications, good camera and a great battery life.
But I would like to add, like; it runs on Android Kitkat and we are not quite sure about the updates being rolled out and also the Miui interface is slightly heavy which may make the device slow in due course. The display resolution is decent for the price, while the build quality could have been better but again price should also be kept in mind. It also does not have the Corning Gorilla Glass3 protection on top so you might need a Screen Protector as well. Lastly, one should also enquire about their after sales service in your area as at times you just might need their assistance. I did visit their Customer Service Centre and I did feel that Xiaomi could improve in this area.
But still, it is a great device and will surely be very popular among end users.
