Huami has recently launched two smart watches in India, Amazfit Bip and Amazfit Stratos. The Amazfit Bip is the economical variant priced at Rs 5,499/- while Amazfit Stratos is a premium variant priced at Rs 15,999/-. Huami is a subsidiary brand of Xiaomi (popularly known as Mi in India), involved in designing and manufacturing of smart wearable products. The variants had earlier been launched in China and US before making its way to India. The smart watch is available exclusively on Flipkart. Considering the limited supply of the Amazfit Bip, interested buyers may have to wait for a while to purchase this particular smartwatch.

I was looking for a feature rich smartwatch with great battery life at a reasonable price, Amazfit Bip just seems to fit my bill. The smartwatch itself may look similar to Apple Smartwatch Series, but one of the biggest plus is the battery life, as it promises almost 30 days battery life. I have been using this smartwatch for couple of days now, the experience has been decent to say the least.

About Amazfit Bip Smartwatch

Design and Build: Amazfit Bip weighs just 32 gms with the silicone strap. The strap provided with the smartwatch is decent and feels comfortable to use. The polycarbonate build of the watch is decent for the price and the option to change the band if and when required makes the deal a little more sweet.

Amazfit Bip comes with a physical button to the left, required to activate the touchscreen functions and also to go back to the previous menu. The charging point and the heart rate sensor are provided at the back of the smartwatch. The touchscreen is fairly responsive, but one needs to swipe firmly as soft touches at times goes unnoticed. The smartwatch comes with transflective color display, 1.28 inch screen, 2.5D Corning Gorrilla Glass with AF Coating (Anti Finger Print), IP68 Certification (making it a dust and water resistant smartwatch).

Software and Connectivity: The Amazfit Smartwatch needs to be synced with the Smartphone using the Mi Fit application (the same app used for Mi Band 1, 2 and HRX Edition). The smartwatch is compatible with Android OS Kitkat (4.4) and Apple IOS 9.0 onwards. It requires Bluetooth 4.0 to connect with the respective smartphone.

The smart watch receives quite a few firmware/resources updates as soon as it synced with Mi Fit app for the first time (takes about 10-15 minutes). One may also change the watch face as per their preference from the watch as well as the Mi Fit App.

The watch interface is simple but provides relevant info related to tracking Activities, Weather, App Notifications, Call Alerts, etc. Amazfit Bip allows you to read the notifications and reject calls from the watch it self, but responding to calls and notifications is not possible.

Activity Tracker and Battery Life: Amazfit Bip Smartwatch comes with 200 mah which is claimed to provide 45 days of battery life when used under specific conditions. However, in my daily use with 80% brightness level, custom watch face and most of the notification enabled, I’m getting around 10-12 days of battery life on single charge. But considering the fact that it has the “always on” display, it is still very impressive.

The activity tracker on this device also does a decent job. The activity tracking seems fairly accurate, Amazfit Bip tracks sleep pattern, steps taken, distance covered, calories burnt and heart rate. The accuracy of the heart rate count is something I need to test a bit more.

The Smartwatches also supports GPS functionality which may be enabled while going for walk, run or cycling, this helps in tracking route taken during the activity. However, the tracker cannot detect the muscle training or any such related activity.

Overall, the tracking on this device is satisfactory.

My Opinion

Considering the price, battery life, tracker and features available on the Amazfit Bip, I’m pretty satisfied with the purchase. If one is looking for a budget Smartwatch, Amazfit Bip is surely a strong contender in this segment.
