One Plus recently launched their much awaited flagship device the “One Plus Two”. One Plus was fairly successful with their first device the One Plus One and would like to replicate the same with One Plus Two. The phone is backed up with impressive hardware specifications and additional features which will enrich your smartphone experience. The phone is available in two variants, with 16GB and 64GB storage internal storage. The 16GB variant has 3GB of Ram while 64GB boosts of 4GB Ram.
The phone has been priced very aggressively and is available in India for Rs 24,999/- for the 64 GB variant which is very competitive considering the hardware specifications and overall performance of the phone. This phone does come with some major upgrades over the previous generation device but has its share of shortcomings as well. The previous generation of One Plus is still doing good business and is still is one of the best phones available in the market.
The One Plus 2 is available only through the invite system which preferred by One Plus and can be exclusively purchased through Amazon India. As the phone is being sold through the invite system one may have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on this device.
Let’s look at the reasons to buy this phone:-

Premium Build Quality and Design: The phone sports the sandstone back which we have seen in the previous edition and once again One Plus has done a decent job with the build. The sandstone back offers a good grip and it is really comfortable to hold. The bezels are a shade narrower on this device which translates into a better form factor. The device has a solid feel to it and is capable of surviving few drops as well which is a good news for Individuals who have a habit of dropping their phone.

Latest Hardware and Android OS: The phone comes with the latest Android OS and hardware specifications on board. The 64GB variant has got 4GB Ram which is pretty impressive and will ensure that it will run almost anything thrown at it pretty smoothly. The Snapdragon 810 2.1 chipset has been under clocked to address the excessive heating issue and One Plus has been able to resolve the matter to a great extent.

Improved Camera Performance: The Camera has also seen an improvisation over its predecessor and is capable of clicking decent pictures and does a reasonable job even in artificial lighting conditions. The video recording experience on this device is pretty good in my opinion and does not have any major stabilization issue. The front camera is also decent but is not as good as the ones seen on other flagship devices.

Reasonable Pricing: The device may not have the features seen on many of the 2015 flagship devices but still for the price below 25k it is a value for money device. The phone is impressive performance wise and will be able to perform most of the tasks with ease. Even while gaming you won’t face any severe heating or lagging issues.

Fingerprint Scanner: The fingerprint scanner on this device also performs well for the most of the time but will trouble you once in a while and I think One Plus may be able to sort it out with an OTA update, even other phones are plagued by similar issues so one can’t really complain about it.

Reasons to avoid this Phone:-

No NFC/IR Support: Despite being a flagship device from One Plus, this device does not come with NFC support. It may be argued that it is not used by many, but then if it is a flagship device built for 2016 then NFC support should have been provided. It also does not have the IR Blaster which in my opinion is disappointing considering that the feature is used by many of us.

Fast Charging Not Available: This is the most disappointing aspect in my opinion that the phone does not come with the Qualcomm quick charging. Thus one will have to spend close to 3 hours to completely charge the phone which again questions its claim of being a “2016 Flagship Device”.

Average Battery Life: The battery life on this device is good but not the best. The powerful processor seems to be a bit more taxing on the battery and you will observe that compared to its predecessor this phone offers much lesser screen time.

Limited Service Centers: One of the biggest concerns for me is the limited service centre for One Plus devices. So for anyone interested in buying the phone will have to look at the service centers available in their respective location before buying this device because some of us may require their support at some point of time.

Overall Impression

In my opinion the One Plus 2 is an decent upgrade and offers good value for money. But by no means can it be called “2016 Flagship Device” and frankly speaking it will struggle to compete against other flagship devices in terms of the features offered on this device. However, the phone has been priced very reasonably and is a pretty powerful device with decent performance. So if you are looking for a powerful device at a decent price then One Plus 2 could be the best for you.
