One Plus has finally announced the launch of their latest flagship in India, the One Plus 5. One Plus has been sending out teasers to create a hype around the launch for quite some time now. Finally, the OP5 is available for sale exclusively on the Amazon portal. The device comes with the latest hardware specification onboard along with major improvements in the camera department claimed by the One Plus Team.
OP5 comes in two variant, Base variant is priced at Rs 32,999/- which has 64GB storage and 6 GB of Ram, while the premium variant which provides 128GB storage and 8 GB of Ram is priced at Rs 37,999/-. The phone is available in two color variants, the base version comes in Slate Grey while the premium has the Midnight Black finish.
In my opinion, One Plus has priced the phone pretty aggressively considering the fact that it comes with the top end specs and features. However, it does disappoint in some aspects but then one really can’t complain much due to the pricing of the phone.
The phone was officially launched on 22nd June, 2017 and went on sale for a brief period with the introductory offers. OP5 will be again available from 27th June 2017.
About the One Plus 5
Coming to the specs, the device comes with decent form factor for 5.5 inch display device. The anodized aluminum body looks great though it does resemble the Apple Iphone7 to a certain extent from the back. Even then, One cannot ignore the premium feel and ergonomic build of the device.
OP5 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset and Octa core Kyro Processor. Coupled with 6/8 GB Ram and 64/128GB internal storage along with Adreno 540 GPU. However, like its predecessors, this phone also does not come with external storage support.
The OP5 retains the Full HD Optic Amoled display which is decent for the display size and will be less taxing on the battery as well.
It also comes with the latest Android OS Nougat 7.0 with the custom Oxygen interface on top. Although, it is not heavily customized and retains the stock Android flavor for the users.
The battery provided on the phone is of 3,300 mah which should be able to last for a day under normal usage as the Snapdragon 835 is expected to be battery efficient as it is built using the 10nm manufacturing process.
The most talked about aspect of the phone is Camera, the OP5 comes dual rear camera setup. The main camera is 16 mp shooter with f/1.7 aperture which promises to capture high quality images while the telephoto camera helps to gather more detail and get the bokeh effect.
The OP5 also comes with NFC support and the Fingerprint scanner is placed below the screen. One Plus has also provided the other basic sensors on the phone.
Is it a Killer Flagship Device?
If one has to go by the specs and price, it definitely looks a very promising device. However, I do have minor knit pickings about the phone and had the under mentioned been available, it would have compelled me to buy this device.
No IR Blaster
Lack of Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) Support
No Water Resistant Certification
Apart from the trivial issues highlighted above, the phone is totally value for money device and no other brand is providing such high end specs at such price. However, it may all change if Xiaomi decides to bring their Mi6 in India. If that happens it will be a very interesting duel between OP5 and Mi6.
