Moto Z Play: Is it One of the Best Smartphone of 2016?

Lenovo has launched the much awaited flagship Moto Series in India. The two variant launched last week is the Moto Z and the more affordable Moto Z Play. Moto Z Play and Moto Z has been priced at Rs 24,999/- and Rs 39,999/- respectively. The device is available on Flipkart and Amazon. The Moto Mods is one of the exciting features available with these phones, however one requires to purchase the Mods separately which are fairly expensive.

The different Modules can be easily fitted on the back of the phones providing enhanced end user experience with this phones. The Moto Z Play and Moto Z are compatible with all the mods. In this post we will take a close look at the Moto Z Play. Motorola is providing the Moto Style Mod along with the device while rest of the mods is available at discounted price if purchased together with the device.

Build and Display: Motorola has put in a lot of effort with the design of this device. The build looks sturdy and has a refreshing premium feel to it. The back is made up of glass which has the Corning Gorilla 4 protection making it more durable while the chassis is made up of metal. The ergonomics of the device makes it very comfortable to use but since the device is fairly large hence single hand operation may not be possible on this phone.

The Screen provided on this device is also excellent. The Amoled Display is crisp with decent color accuracy and great viewing angles.

 

Battery Life: The phone comes with exceptional battery life and the fast charging support just makes the deal a lot sweeter. The phone will easily last you for more than a day even with heavy to very use. The latest Snapdragon 625 is known for battery efficiency and Moto Z Play is no different.

 

Hardware Specifications: The phone comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset which is built on the 14nm technology. This makes the device power efficient and at the same time being fairly powerful to perform heavy tasks with ease.

The Adreno 506 GPU ensures lag free experience while gaming and 3GB of Ram is adequate for graphic intensive games and multitasking.

Moto Z Play comes with 32 GB internal storage and it supports SD card upto 2TB so one will enjoy ample storage on this device.

 

Software and Features: The best thing about Moto devices is that they come with Stock Android Interface and are one of the first devices to receive android updates. Motorola has put minimal bloatwares and provides pure Android experience to the individuals.

The phone comes with finger print scanner which is placed below the display and pins are provided at the back to accommodate the various Mod setup.

Mods are the various forms of enhancements which users may avail for enriched experience. The various enhancers which have been made available are the Camera, Power, Speaker and Projector mods. These Mods are the new innovation but how successful they would become remains to be seen as they are pretty expensive at the moment.

The phone also does not seem to exhibit any heating or memory management issue.

 

Camera: The device does have a decent camera which does reasonably well but not as great as Lenovo is claiming it to be. The phone like its peers does really well under daylight conditions but images do appear a tad softer under low lighting and artificial lighting.

The Video recording on this device is also pretty decent.

However, at this price point most of the devices deliver similar performance so Moto Z Play does a reasonable job.

 

Service Support: Motorola has been providing after sales service through 3^rd party vendors which may become time consuming at times as there is a fair amount of delay in getting the spare parts. With the portfolio of Lenovo expanding they should be looking for dedicated Customer Support with shorter TAT (Turnaround Time).

 

Overall Verdict: One of the incredible launches by Lenovo, not because of the fact that it comes with Mod support but primarily because it has been priced reasonably and offers good value for money. Coming from a notable brand this device not only comes with premium build and features but also delivers with power packed performance.

 

The only reason for which I will not consider this device is the fact that it has got a glass back and size is tad bigger for a 5.5 inch device. Apart from those two minor knits the device is really impressive and Motorola has done a great job with this device. Moto Z Play is ideal for individuals who want a premium phone with exceptional battery life and performance.
