Motorola recently launched their Mid range device the “Moto X Play” which has been priced very competitively and is available exclusively online through Flipkart. The 16 GB variant has been priced at Rs 18,499/- while the 32 GB is available for Rs 19,999/-. Motorola has been very smart with their strategy and planning ever since they made a comeback in the market. Moto has been launching limited number of devices every year in different price brackets thereby keeping their production cost in check and also providing consumers with choices in various segments.
This year Motorola have come out with pretty impressive devices unlike the previous year, where they came out with pretty mediocre devices or with just minor upgrade and tweaks. Moto X Play is an impressive device and is completely a value for money device. Motorola have tried to remove the soft spots we witnessed in the previous generation devices and this device does exhibit improvements, especially in the Camera department.
Let’s Look at the Pros of Moto X Play:-
Good Build Quality: This has been the strongest point of Motorola ever since they have made a comeback in the Smartphone market. Even the budget and midrange smartphones pack a premium feel to it and Moto X Play is no different. Although it is relatively thick but the curved back and ergonomic design make it really comfortable to hold and use. The rubberized back also provides better grip and despite being on the heavier side, the ergonomic design ensures that the weight is well distributed and you would not feel the heft while using the device.
Latest Android OS: Being a Motorola device, you can be rest assured that you will be getting the latest Android updates and that too pretty quickly as compared to other devices. Moto also do support most of their devices for atleast 18 months and we expect this time too it won’t be any different.
Reasonable Pricing: The device has been priced quite competitively in my opinion, when you consider the specifications offered and also the fact that it comes from one of the reputed brands. It is a value for money device which will be able to perform most of the things asked from it.
Excellent Battery Life: It is also being marketed as the USP of the device. The phone sports a 3630mah battery which the Motorola claims to last for 2 days on a single charge. Although, heavy users may not be able to survive for 2 days on single charge but moderate users can expect the phone to last longer before running out of battery.
Cons of Moto X Play
Limited Number of Service Centers: Motorola has been adding up service centers but they don’t have their exclusive service centers in most of the cities which needs to be addressed. Also people have complained that they are charged a premium for even very minor replacements or defects. Hence after sales service needs to improve.
Quick Charging Adapter Not Available:Although quick charging is supported by the device but the adapter provided with the phone does not support quick charging. So if you need to buy the fast charging adapter separately.
Graphic Intensive Games May Lag at Times: The phone performs most of the task without any lag but while playing graphic intensive games you will find the device lagging and will experience a few frame drops at times.
No LED Notification Light: This may be a letdown for some, as this phone does not have the physical LED notification light, However, you do get the Active Notification screen as soon as you hold the phone. This feature was previously available only in the flagship Moto phones.
But some people are going to miss the LED notification light on this phone.
Overall Impressions
Moto X Play is an impressive midrange phone which will perform most of the tasks thrown at it. The device is competitively priced and has got a decent rear and front camera too. Moto X Play comes from a tier 1 brand and will get the latest Android update which makes it an exciting option. The phone may have minor cons highlighted above but overall performance of the phone is pretty decent.
If anyone is looking for a midrange device then he/she should seriously consider Moto X Play.
