Motorola recently launched the successor to their highly successful midrange smartphone the MotoG. The previous generation MotoG (2014) was not as successful as its predecessor MotoG (2013) as it had to face stiff competition from the other Chinese brands and also the phone was did not have any major upgrades to attract the buyers. Thus Motorola have realized that they need to offer a lot more at a very competitive price if they really want to compete with the likes of Xiaomi, One Plus, Gionee and even Micromax. With MotoG 2015 (3rd Gen) we find that Motorola has made a serious attempt to win back the confidence of buyers and specification not only look good on paper but also delivers performance wise.

The phone is available for sale exclusively on e-tail store Flipkart and has been priced at Rs 11,999/- for 8GB version and Rs 12,999/- for 16GB version. However in my opinion it is not at all viable to go for the 8GB version as it has got only 1GB of Ram and limited internal storage is also an another deterrent factor. In this post I will share my views on the 16GB version of the MotoG 2015.

Let’s look at the reasons which make this phone an attractive buy:

Impressive Build and Design: The Motorola has done an excellent job with the design and build of this device. The phone does have a bit of heft but the ergonomics of phone is such that it is very comfortable to hold and even single hand use is possible for most of the users on this device. The textured back lends a premium feel to it and the build feels solid, it can even survive few drops without much issue. The phone also has got the IPX7 Water Resistant certification which means it can survive even if gets drenched.

Improved Camera and Expandable Storage: Motorola have responded to the criticism they have faced in the past. Thus the MotoG 2015 does come with expandable storage. The camera performance on this phone has also improved considerably as compared to the previous editions. The rear camera as well as the front camera has been upgraded to 13megapixel and 5megapixel respectively. Motorola has also done a good job with the camera this time around and the camera does capture decent images. The dual tone led flash also helps.

Latest Android On Board: Motorola is very good with providing latest OS updates and one gets to enjoy the stock Android experience. It comes with the latest OS pre installed and one can expect this device to get atleast 1 more major Android update.

Decent Hardware Specifications: The hardware provided with this device may not be the top end but does promise a smooth end user experience. The device does not heat up as much as some of the other devices and is very fluid performance wise. MotoG 2015 will be able to play most of the games thrown at it and even while multitasking you won’t see and major lag.

Reasons to avoid this device:-

Stiff Competition from Reputed Chinese Brands: This phone has got worthy competitors from the Brands like Xiaomi, One Plus and even its own parent company Lenovo. So end users will be spoilt for choice as most of the devices from rival brands do compete with this device in terms of specifications and pricing of this phone.

No Led Notification Light: This is not actually a con but more of a preference in my opinion. MotoG 2015 does not have a LED Notification light, however it does feature the active display which we have seen on the flagship devices of the Motorola.

Fast Charging/NFC Not Available: The Qualcomm fast charging is not available on this phone which means you have to give a lot of time for the phone to charge itself. This is not a big con considering it is a mid range device but still few might have preferred it. MotoG 2015 also does not have the NFC support.

Overall Impression

Well, to be very honest I had a tough time writing down the cons about this device and even then you will find that I have not been able to write anything substantial.
Barring the few knit pickings, I liked this phone very much. It comes from a reputed brand at a very reasonable price and I feel that Motorola has done a great job after disappointing us with the launch of MotoG 2014. This device has got almost everything right about it and promises to give very stiff competition to some of the Chinese brands who have established a market for themselves since last year.
MotoG 2015 is an impressive device and sports a competitive price considering the fact that it comes from a Top Tier Smartphone brand. Also the overall performance of the phone is pretty fluid and you get a stock android experience on this device which makes it all the more pleasing.
