Motorola recently launched their Budget end device MotoE2 (3G) in India. The phone has been priced at Rs 6,999/- ($115) and is available online exclusively through Flipkart. I will not compare it with any of the devices that are available in the same price band right now as most of them are 4G compatible and are manufactured by Chinese manufacturers or Indian resellers selling rebranded phones.
The specifications on this phone are pretty mediocre but still it comes from a reputed brand and I will mention the reasons to buy or avoid this phone.

Reasons to buy this device:-

Latest Android OS: This phone comes with Android Lollipop pre installed and is the only budget phone at this point of time running the latest OS. Motorola are also one of the fastest with OS updates and are expected to provide latest software update for next 18 months at the very least.

Good Build Quality and Design: The phone is slighter thicker as compared to the recent trend of ultra slim phones but the ergonomic design does provide a good grip and ease of use. The phone is very compact and sturdy hence can survive few drops too. The new body casing covering the SIM slot and Micro SD card looks pretty innovative.

Decent Battery Life: Battery Life is very important for any phone. The battery life on MotoE2 promises to be great. The reason behind it is not only the increased battery size but also the fact that it has a qHD display and a slower processor which will consume less battery.

Decent Price: Coming from a very reputed brand the price seems to quite reasonable. Although you do have some other phones offering better specs in the same price range but they are still young in the market and have not acquired the same trust and brand value as Motorola has done over the years.

Reasons to avoid this phone:-

No 4G LTE Support: This phone does not have the 4G LTE support. Thus people who want to avail 4G services won’t be able to use it on this device. However, some of the other manufacturers are offering 4G LTE support on their devices in the same price bracket.

Outddated Hardware Specifications: The hardware used on this device is pretty outdated and may not be able to render the smooth performance desired some of the heavy users. The rear camera is an improvement over the previous generation but still the performance is pretty mediocre. The phone performs reasonably well under normal use but while gaming you may see occasional lags.

Overall Impression

The phone does look decent for the price but it nothing too impressive. Moreover, the advanced version of this phone is also slated to launch pretty soon. The advanced version of Moto E2 looks promising as it sports a 64 bit Snapdragon chipset, faster processor (Cortex A53), better GPU (Adreno 306) and comes with 4G LTE support enabled.
In my opinion if you are looking for a compact phone which can do little bit of everything and runs the latest Android OS then you may opt for this phone. However this phone is not for heavy usage and gaming. But incase, you can wait for sometime and have the budget then I will suggest you wait for the launch of MotoE2 (4G) which will be available in the price bracket of Rs 9,000/- to Rs 10,000/- ($ 145) approx.
