LG has just launched their new midrange Android phone LG L Bello @ Rs 15,000/- ($255 approx). If you look at the spec sheet you won’t find anything spectacular or different from any other Midrange Android phone however it comes from one of the Tier 1 brand and for people who want a good after sales service this just may be the choice. On hardware front the phone is pretty ordinary by present standards but has got some features which may make it an interesting buy.
Let’s look at the device itself:-
Build
The design of the phone is pretty compact and single hand use seems possible on this 5 inch device. The bezels could have been narrowed down a bit more. Although the phone is slightly thick at 10.7mm but you won’t feel uncomfortable holding it because of the ergonomic design similar to their flagship device LG G3. Another interesting feature about the design is the Volume Rocker key on the back which can be easily accessed by the index finger during use. In terms of handling and use you will find the device to be very comfortable as it is pretty light and weighs only 137 gm apart from the fact that it has got a compact form factor.
Display
Here LG could have done a bit better and offered atleast a qHD display if not a 720p display like any of the other midrange phones in this range. We only get a 480*854 FWVGA IPS display with a modest pixel density of 196 ppi. However the display is not that bad and if you are not used to HD displays you won’t face much issues using the device but the screen does look mediocre.
It does have Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top.
Hardware
In terms of Hardware you won’t find anything exceptional and it uses the standard configuration found on most of the midrange devices. It is powered by the 1.3 ghz Quad Core Processor and Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset backed by 1gb Ram. The GPU used on the device is Adreno 305 which will be sufficient to handle most of the games.
It has an internal storage of 8gb and you can expand it upto 32 gb with a micro SD Card.
Software
This device uses the same LG UI used on its flagship device LG G3. So this UI does offer a lot of features which can be used in practical life. It does have the Knock On Feature and special Tap to Unlock feature which does offer additional security as well. Under the LG custom UI you have the Android Kitkat 4.4.2 running. But it remains to be seen whether it gets the Android L update.
The UI is good and you won’t see much lag on the device.
Battery Life
The 2540 mah promises to give the device a very good battery life and you can easily survive a day on a single charge with moderate to slightly heavy use.
Camera
Camera on this phone promises a lot and may be the highlighting factor of this phone as it sports a 8 megapixel rear camera with Touch and Shoot feature which allows you to take a snap by touching anywhere on the screen. It also has Gesture Shot which enables you to open and close the lens with your hand to start a 3 second shutter. Overall the image quality on this device is decent. Even the front camera is decent for skype calls and for selfies you have flash light (LED) which helps you to take decent clicks.
Overall Impression
Overall this is a decent Mid range smartphone which enables you to experience the LG G3 UI and specifications for this phone is also decent for the price.
But if you look around for similar devices from other brands at this price range then I would prefer Moto G2 and Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime over this device. But if you don’t want Samsung or Motorola then this LG device could be just for you.
