Lenovo launched their budget Android device the A7000 just a few days back and it comes with the latest Android Lollipop OS pre installed. The phone is priced at Rs 8,999/- ($150 approx) and is available exclusively online through Flipkart. At the moment Individuals interested in purchasing this device need to register for the flash sale.
The phone boasts of impressive hardware specifications and is a competitor to the Xiaomi’s Redmi Note and Micromax Yu Yureka. Lenovo had recently launched A6000 which is still selling pretty well and is a very good device for a price of Rs 6,999 ($ 115 approx).
This device is much more powerful than its predecessor and comes with Dolby Atmos which promises to enhance your Audio experience with the Phone. The phone is looking impressive and seems to be getting a lot of interest as well.
Let’s look at Reasons to buy this phone:-
Latest Android OS: At this price point apart from Moto E 2ndGen you would not find any phone which comes with Lollipop pre installed on the device. But again Moto E has got its own limitations as well. So if you are looking for a phablet kind of device which will be able to handle multitasking with ease then this phone may just be the right choice.
Impressive Hardware Specifications: The hardware specs bundled on this device looks impressive as it has a Octa Core processor and 2 gb of Ram. It uses a Mediatek chipset which in my opinion is a good thing as it has been observed that Snapdragon 615 chipsets tends to heats up pretty fast.
4G LTE Support: The device supports 4G LTE which also makes it a future proof phone atleast for some time now. However, only the 1stSim slot supports 4G.
Good Battery Backup: The phone will offer a good battery backup as it has a 720p resolution and Mediatek Chipset are known to be less taxing on the battery. Even a heavy user might be able to last through a day on single charge.
Let’s look at the Reasons to avoid this phone:-
After Sales Service: Lenovo don’t have their own exclusive service centre as such and have outsourced the after sales service to third party providers. This often leads to unnecessary delay in addressing issues with the devices. Most of their products do perform satisfactorily but you will find some products facing some build quality issue and with third party service you may find that they take considerable amount of time to solve the issue.
Software Support: Lenovo is not known for providing great software support to their mid range devices in the long run. So if you expect that this device to get the next major Android update then it might be delayed or may not be provided at all.
Occasional Lags and Frame Drop: Since the device sports a Mali GPU you may observe occasional lag and frame drop while gaming. However, except the occasional lag, the games are pretty much playable and applications run pretty smoothly.
Average Camera: The rear and even the front camera performs is decent under good lighting condition. But it will show its weakness in artificial or low lighting condition. Even the video recording is mediocre. But considering the price you can’t complain much.
Overall Impression
Overall, it is a very good device for the price and pros with the phone easily outweigh the cons mentioned above. The phone offers incredible specs for the price and performance is also decent.
If you are looking for a phone with the latest Android OS pre installed and more importantly a phone which does not have any major heating issue then this phone could just be for you.
Apart the facts pointed out above the use of Dolby Atmos for the first time on a smartphone also makes it a very interesting buy.
So, In my opinion for the price just below Rs 8,999/- it is definitely a phone which will give stiff competition to the Moto E (4G), Xiaomi Redmi Note and Yu Yureka.
