The demand for the laptops has witnessed a sharp surge in the year 2020. As Covid-19 pandemic has confined us to our homes and most of us are working from home/remote locations. It is very important to have a laptop which delivers in terms of performance, features along with an affordable price tag. So in this post I will cover Budget Asus Vivobook Ryzen laptop which in my opinion is a value for money product. Well, we do have few notable Budget laptops from other Brands as well in this price range. I will try to cover other value for money laptops in another post.
Overview: Budget Asus Ryzen Vivobook 14 X412DA Laptop
Asus Vivobook 14 X412DA comes with 14 inch FHD display and is powered by the Ryzen 5 3500U processor. The Laptop comes with decent build and compact design which makes it easy to carry and weighs around 1.5 kgs. The super slim bezels along with NanoEdge display on four sides gives a premium feel to the laptop.
The price of the Asus Vivobook 14 X412DA laptop is Rs 42,990/-. It is available for additional discount on Flipkart during the Big Sale, the price may come down to below Rs 40,000/-. Budget Ryzen Asus Vivobook below Rs 40,000/- is a very good deal in my opinion.
Specifications: Asus Ryzen 5 Vivobook X412DA Laptop
Hardware
One of the brightest spot for this laptop is the hardware it offers for the price. Vivobook 14 is powered by the Ryzen 5 3500U processor which is comparatively better then the Intel i5 8th generation in terms of performance. The processor clock speed is of 2.1 ghz with turbo boost up to 3.7 ghz. Even in terms of GPU (Graphics), the integrated AMD Radeon Vega 8 outperforms the Intel HD 620 by a margin.
The Vivobook comes with 8 GB DDR4 Ram, upgradeable up to 12 GB. Out of the 8 GB Ram provided, 4GB is soldered on the motherboard and additional slot is occupied by another 4GB stick.
GPU utilizes 2GB out of the 8GB Ram to provide decent gaming experience. However, this is not a gaming laptop and experience won’t be great while playing graphic intensive games at the highest settings.
Vivobook 14 is backed by the 37 Whrs Li-ion battery along with fast charging support.
Vivobook 14 is provided with large SSD storage. The onboard storage capacity is of 512 GB along with additional slot for expansion. The SSD provided on the laptop is really fast and system boots up in just few seconds.
Build & Design
I’m really impressed by the build of this Vivobook. The entire body is made of good quality plastic, the look & feel is premium. The laptop weighs approx 1.5 kgs which is well distributed. The compact build makes it very convenient to use. The vents are provided at the back and just below the screen to dissipate the heat. The bottom-side placement of the speakers along with ergonomic design allows for decent audio experience too.
The laptop appears pretty sleek. It seems like 14 inch display has been fitted in 13 inch frame. Asus has done a great job in terms of build and design of the laptop. The hinge is also pretty sturdy, even though single hand lifting of the lid is not possible.
Overall the Build & Design provided on this laptop is premium. The silver colour variant really looks classy.
Display & Sound
One of the areas which will disappoint quite a few is the display. The display is average at best. The Full HD Antiglare display is decent for normal use but may not be suitable for editing work or content creation. The viewing angles is average, the colour tends to fade at certain angles. The brightness level of the Vivobook is at 200 nits with refresh rate of 60 hz. Indoor use of the laptop should be a problem but outdoors or under strong lighting, viewing could be a problem.
The bottom firing speakers are loud enough for normal use. But for rich multimedia experience one may have to rely on external speakers.
Keyboard & Connectivity
The “EgroLift” hinge display makes typing convenient and also allows the heat to dissipate. The full size backlit keyboard is well spread out with key travel of 1.3 mm, which is decent. The fingerprint scanner is provided on the track pad. Typing experience on the laptop is really pleasant and the fingerprint scanner works likes charm.
In terms of connectivity, Asus has not cut any corners as the Vivobook comes with 3 USB ports which including a type-C port, one HDMI port, and a micro SD Card reader. However, charging through type-C port is not supported. An extra USB slot would have been nice, but the compact design leaves very little real estate for the same.
Battery & Features
Battery life on this laptop is just about average. Under normal use the battery will last for about 3-4 hours. The battery provided on this Vivobook is 2-cell 37 WHrs which is slightly small considering the powerful processor used on this laptop. Fast charging support is available. Asus claims up to 60% charge in just 49 minutes.
Vivobook comes with Bluetooth 4.2 and Wifi 5 support. Fingerprint scanner provided on the track pad works fine. Webcam on this laptop is good enough for conference calls. The backlit keyboard comes with 3 level of brightness which allows user to adjust as per the requirement.
Budget Asus Ryzen Vivobook 14 Laptop: Opinion
In my opinion, Asus Vivobook 14 X412 DA is one of the best laptop available for around Rs 40,000/-. It offers a perfect balance between style and performance. The hardware specifications are good to last this laptop for 2-3 years easily. The price, performance & features make it an attractive buy. On the down side, the display and battery life is not the best. In case, Battery Life and Display are priorities then exploring other models makes sense. However, one will need to pay more for it or else settle for slightly less powerful laptop.
