Micromax Yu Yureka (Cyanogen): Impressive Budget Phone
The Phone is available through Flashsale on Amazon.in. Do register to grab this device.
Micromax has recently launched Yureka (Yu) device which runs the on Cyanogen Mod Rom. Micromax has entered into an agreement with Cyanogen Mod Rom developers and from now on they are the only official providers of Cyanogen Rom in India. One Plus One had made the Cyanogen Rom very popular but they have now decided to develop their own ROM. This is a budget Android device and will directly compete with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G.
Micromax Yu is available exclusively on Amazon India portal and is priced very competitively at Rs 8999/-. Buyers need to register beforehand to be eligible for the flashsale.
Build quality on this phone is pretty decent for the price. It has a matt finish at the back which offers a good grip on the device. But overall the build quality is mediocre and will not give the premium feel like we had on One Plus One or any of the higher end devices. The battery is user removable.
Yu comes with 720p display protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The 5.5 inch display gives you a pixel density of 267 ppi. I would have preferred 1080p display but at this price I cannot complain much. The display is vibrant and viewing angles also seem to be good on the phone.
This may well be the selling point of the phone as it sports a 64 bit octa core processor on Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset. This will be one of the very few phones with this hardware configuration. It has two Quad Core processors clocked at 1.5 ghz and 1.0 ghz respectively. You will have to wait for the Android L update to see the real performance difference on this device as it has been optimized to run on 64 bit processors unlike the Kitkat which is based on 32 bit.
It also boasts of 2gb RAM and Adreno 405 which will make it a very interesting device for the gamers as well.
It has an internal storage of 16gb out of which around 12 gb will be available to the users. You can pop in a Micro SD Card too as it supports external storage upto 32 gb.
It runs on the latest Android OS, i.e Kitkat 4.4 but Micromax has assured of Android L update at the earliest. It runs the Cyanogen Rom which is very fluid and provides lag free experience on this device. The UI seems pretty responsive and uses very less RAM as per the experts.Transition to apps is also very smooth. Overall the user experience seems to be pretty good.
The phone does support 4G network. The 1st SIM supports 4G while the 2nd SIM comes with 3G support.
The phone sports a 2500 mah battery which just may not be sufficient to last through the day under heavy usage but it needs to be tested more to find out the actual performance. A slightly bigger battery would have been great.
The 13 megapixel rear camera is also decent and does take some good pictures. In daylight and good lighting conditions pictures come out well and color reproduction is also very good. But it does tend to struggle under artificial and low lighting conditions as you won’t see much details and color reproduction is also not that good.
The front camera is decent for selfies but nothing great.
It looks to be a fabulous device for the price and offers a great value for money. The Octa Core processor does seem to heat up a bit but it is not a big issue as most of the devices do tend to heat up during continuous usage. All the features on the phone is great for the price it is being offered. If Micromax is able to provide good service to the end customers then this could be a game changer Budget Smartphone and will give Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G a stiff competition.
