State owned Telecom Company BSNL has decided to upgrade the Broadband Speed limit starting 1st November, 2017. The speed is set to be upgraded across all unlimited plans to 8 mbps and 10 mbps respectively, subject to technical feasibility. The revision is applicable on pan India basis and is available on both DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) plans. This is welcome news for the BSNL subscribers as it will boost data transfer speed in the world of rapid digitization.

BSNL is already the leading wired Broadband provider in the country and with the latest upgrade they are expected to expand from their current 13 million plus subscriber base (approx figures).

BSNL has also announced the withdrawal of two of their plans BBG Combo ULD 1441 and BBG Combo ULD 2841 plan for new users.

The benefits will be extended at no additional cost which makes the announcement all the more exciting. In May, earlier this year BSNL had raised the speed limit to 4 mbps.

According to reports and details provided, Plans below Rs 675 will provide initial speeds up to 8 mbps while the higher tariff plans will offer up to 10 mbps as per the Fair Usage Policy (FUP). However, the speed post the FUP limit has been restricted to 2 mbps for plans starting from Rs 599, while plans with lower tariffs has been restricted to 1 mbps.

Even the Promotional Plan, “Experience Broadband Unlimited 249” will offer speeds up to 8 mbps till 5GB which will be restricted to 1mbps post FUP limit.

BSNL also has maintained the existing free voice calls benefits as per the respective plan for its subscribers. The Combo Plans offer Broadband Services along with Call facilities to the Subscribers. Local Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) will face stiff competition with this move from BSNL.

It will be even great if BSNL decides to upgrade the minimum data transfer speed post the FUP limit in the near future. As it will provide sufficient bandwidth for viewing interruption free Web content offered by some of the leading Online Streaming networks.
